The PgCert represents the successful completion of a postgraduate training programme in a specific subject, thereby gaining recognition of your skills and knowledge in your chosen field. For example, upon successful completion of a postgraduate certificate in Neurology at Ifevet, you will receive the «PgCert. Neuro.», or the PgCert. Neuro. Ifevet (APR) if you have elected to study for the RCVS-accredited qualification, which can be used when applying for Advanced Practitioner status, expanding the range of opportunities available. Advanced Practitioner applicants must also meet the RCVS’s additional eligibility requirements.

A standard PgCert takes eight months to complete. For the APR route, completion takes 12-14 months as this includes structured assessments designed to evaluate how participants apply their knowledge in clinical practice, through further coursework, independent study and practical, case-based assessments.

A standard PgCert takes around eight months and students must pass a multiple-choice examination (MCQ), achieving a score of at least 50%, with a second attempt available. The APR route takes 12-14 months and involves additional assessments, including essays, case logs, a case study and a viva.

All veterinary surgeons or students who have completed their degree can enrol for a PgCert. Veterinary surgeons with a minimum of one year’s experience working in practice can apply for an RCVS-accredited Ifevet PgCert (APR) and must also have a completed PDP/ Vet GDP.

Upon successful completion of an Ifevet PgCert, you will receive a Level 7 university postgraduate certificate, which carries 30 ECTS (European) credits, the equivalent of 60 UK University credits, that validates your skills and knowledge in the veterinary field. In 2026, Ifevet gained accreditation for its postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Neurology from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the statutory regulatory body for the UK veterinary professions. It is the first Ifevet programme to achieve this recognition, which follows a rigorous, year-long accreditation process. The Ifevet Postgraduate Certificate in Neurology – PgCert. Neuro. Ifevet (APR) – is now an RCVS-approved eligible qualification enabling application for Advanced Practitioner status.

In the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) reflects a credit system which represents the candidate’s level of study. Our PgCerts are Level 7 qualifications providing 30 ECTS, equivalent to 60 UK University credits.

Our standard PgCert programmes lead to a Level 7 university qualification. In addition, our Small Animal Neurology Advanced Practitioner Route (APR) has been officially approved by the RCVS as an eligible qualification for Advanced Practitioner status. Successful graduates can use this qualification to support their application for RCVS Advanced Practitioner recognition, subject to meeting the RCVS eligibility criteria. We aim to extend this recognition to additional specialities in the future.

No, you will not have to pay for, or repeat, completed learning if an RCVS-approved APR pathway becomes available in a PgCert topic during your studies or at a later date. Entry is subject to eligibility, recognition of prior learning and available places.

An additional APR supplement (£2950) will allow completion of the additional professional skills learning and all required APR assessments. Original enrolment prices, including agreed discounts and instalment arrangements, will be respected and all outstanding instalments remain payable.

All APR learning and assessment requirements must be met. Previous examination results, including the original MCQ, cannot be carried over. Please note that APR course approval and timing are not guaranteed for individual topics. 

You can choose to join the APR route during your studies or after you have received your standard PgCert. To apply for an RCVS-accredited Ifevet PgCert (APR) you need to be a veterinary surgeon with a minimum of one year’s experience working in practice and must also have a completed PDP/ Vet GDP. 

You will not need to repeat previous learning but previous examination results, such as the standard PGCert MCQ are not carried over. An additional APR supplement (£2950) will allow completion of the additional professional skills learning and all required APR assessments. The streaming format allows you to attend live training sessions with the speakers through our platform, as well as having the flexibility of being able to review the training sessions as many times as you need.

The blended format consists of training programmes that include both streaming and face-to-face training.

The classroom format is a training programme that has 100% of the training hours in a specified centre.

The live lectures will be recorded and uploaded onto the online campus shortly after the live session. This enables you to watch the lectures at your convenience throughout the entire postgraduate course, making the training programme flexible to suit your schedule and circumstances.
