Mark Coia

Mark is an RCVS and European Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, with broad experience spanning specialist referral practice, teleradiology, advanced imaging consultancy, and veterinary education.
A graduate of the University of Glasgow Veterinary School, Mark began his career in small animal practice before gaining extensive clinical experience in Australia, where he developed a strong interest in diagnostic imaging and its critical role in the investigation, diagnosis, and clinical management of disease.
He subsequently returned to the University of Glasgow to complete a Clinical Training Scholarship (Internship) in Small Animal Clinical Sciences, followed by an ECVDI Residency in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. In 2021, he was awarded Diplomate status of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) and is recognised as both a European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
Mark currently works as a freelance Veterinary Radiologist, providing specialist imaging support, teleradiology reporting, and consultancy services to veterinary practices and referral hospitals. His previous role at North Downs Specialist Referrals included interpretation across all major imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, radiography, and fluoroscopy, alongside involvement in specialist training and mentorship. He also works directly with veterinary hospitals through regular on-site visits, supporting clinicians with imaging interpretation, case collaboration, and diagnostic decision-making.
In addition to his clinical work, Mark delivers educational services for veterinary professionals, including continuing professional development (CPD/CE), case-based imaging education, and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He is committed to advancing clinical understanding, supporting professional development, and delivering practical, high-value education for veterinarians across all stages of practice.
Markhas a particular interest in the clinical application of diagnostic imaging to complex cases, with a strong emphasis on meaningful imaging interpretation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and improving patient outcomes.
