Elsa Beltrán

LV, Dipl ECVN, PGCertVetEd FHEA, MRCVS, EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Neurology

Elsa Beltrán obtained her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universidad Cardenal Herrera Ceu, Valencia, Spain, in 2002. She completed a general internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona (Spain) in 2004. In 2006 Dr Beltran completed a neurology internship followed by a residency in neurology and neurosurgery at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, UK, obtaining the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) in 2011. She worked for 4 years as a clinical neurology specialist at the same institution. In 2014, she joined the Royal Veterinary College at the University of London, where she currently works part-time as associated professor in Neurology-Neurosurgery. Dr Beltran works in the field of telemedicine with VETCT in the neurology department. She was the chair of the ECVN Education Committee from 2015 to 2020. She is a scientific reviewer for the journals of JSAP, Veterinary Surgery, JFMS, JVIM, Frontiers, VRU and Veterinary Clinic of AVEPA. Author of articles in national and international journals (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0807-7817). Author of several book chapters in the field of veterinary neurology. Co-Editor of the fifth edition of the BSAVA Manual of Feline and Canine Neurology.  She is a regular speaker at training courses both nationally and internationally. Dr Beltran was awarded Speaker of the Year by the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) in 2021.

She is interested in all aspects of veterinary neurology and neurosurgery, but has a particular interest in neuro-ophthalmology, neuroimaging and neurosurgery. She continues her training in Veterinary Education, obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Education in April 2019 and became a member of the academy of higher education. She is currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Education.
