Andy is a board-certified veterinary pathologist specialising in zoo, wildlife, exotic, and aquatic species. He graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2016 and completed an anatomic pathology residency at his alma mater in 2020. During his residency, he undertook a broad training program encompassing zoo, exotic, and forensic cases, and he also taught on the BSc Veterinary Conservation Medicine course. His passion for teaching led him to become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2019.
In 2021, Andy became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists and, in 2022, joined the International Zoo Veterinary Group, where he achieved the title of RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Pathology (Zoo and Wildlife). His previous experience includes leading the zoo and exotic caseload at another diagnostic pathology laboratory and volunteering his expertise at a UK wildlife hospital.
Andy continues to publish peer-reviewed articles in zoological medicine and pathology and frequently presents his research at national and international conferences. His contributions to the field were recognised with the British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS) Best Scientific Paper Award in 2023 for his work on cephalopod pathology. He is also actively involved in editorial work for veterinary journals, including Veterinary Oncology.
