Marisa Lourenço
DVM, MRCVS Residency-trained in Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC)
Graduated from the University of Évora, Portugal, in 2015, she worked in several clinics and hospitals from North to South of Portugal, before moving to the United Kingdom, where she worked as an out of hours doctor near London. In 2018 she began her specialty training with a rotating internship at the University of Edinburgh, and in 2019 she emigrated to the USA, where she completed an Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) specialty internship at the University of Georgia, followed by a 3-year residency program in the same field at Tufts University in Massachusetts. In 2023 she returned to England to be part of the founding clinical team of the ECC service at a new referral specialty hospital.
Her main areas of interest are respiratory diseases (with a special focus on mechanical ventilation), as well as the management of traumatic and post-operative patients in the ICU. She loves contributing to education opportunities for both students and professionals in the veterinary field, and inspiring teams to thrive in their practice of emergency medicine and intensive care of small animals
